New Build | Lake Hawea

This unique home showcases HDW Builders’ commitment to creating distinctive living spaces that are both environmentally conscious and rich in character.

A Home with a History: The owners, accustomed to character homes, sought to replicate that feeling in their new country dwelling. HDW Builders achieved this by thoughtfully incorporating recycled and natural materials throughout the build.

Craftsmanship in Detail: The home was constructed using Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs), ensuring excellent thermal performance. Inside, natural materials abound, including a stunning macrocarpa tongue and groove ceiling and solid wood flooring. A set of matching recycled rimu doors adds a touch of historical elegance.

The entrance to the home is a true testament to HDW Builders’ craftsmanship. The custom-made entrance door features insulated timber, clad with recycled larch on the exterior and rimu on the interior. This unique door is framed with solid recycled hardwood and boasts a distinctive handle forged from an old crowbar – a perfect example of how recycled items can give a home a real point of difference.

Sustainable Living: Beyond the aesthetic appeal of recycled materials, the Lake Hāwea House embodies HDW Builders’ broader commitment to sustainability. Eco-friendly practices were implemented wherever possible, including the use of natural wool insulation and minimizing chemicals in products. Wastage on-site was meticulously minimized, and all products were sourced from reputable, sustainable firms.

The Lake Hāwea House is more than just a dwelling; it’s a testament to HDW Builders’ ability to deliver unique, high-quality homes that honor both the past and the future.
